Crocodile Cardis: Casual Cardigans From Lacoste
Lacoste take us back to the golden era of Izod, crocodiles & classic 80s Casual style with their latest collection of cotton knit cardigans.
V-neck style was a big thing for the original Casuals and as much we could talk about argyle patterns & sportswear shops all day long, it's the classic cardigan we're going to throw a spotlight on. If there was one brand that really championed the whole cardigan thing for the Casuals it was Lacoste. Worn with a buttoned polo shirt underneath, jeans, trainers & the signature wedge haircut, the style was a melting pot of sporty, preppy & "Casual" all at the same time. It was also an era of IZOD Lacoste, the partnership between Lacoste & the American clothing brand, with the cardigans of the era available in sportswear inspired hues such as bold greens, reds & yellows. One for the more serious dressers, cardigans were for the slightly smarter occasions whether it was hitting the local nightclub or just one-upping rival firms. Lacoste have now re-launched their classic cardigan, harking back to the original IZOD era, with some premium cotton knit Casual cardis.

As far as Casual sportswear is concerned it doesn't really get much better than Lacoste. One of the original 80s Casual brands it was the classic crocodile that became like a badge of honour for the Casuals. Such was the allure of the French sportswear brand & its expensive price tag, Lacoste was one of the first brands brought back from football away days on the Continent as fans followed their clubs in search of European glory & the latest Casual sportswear trends. During this golden age of wedge haircuts & Borg Elite's, it wasn’t uncommon to find young Casuals stitching fake crocodiles onto their own shirts so they could "blag" the real thing. Sporting a bit of Lacoste was something like the clothing equivalent of owning the latest pair of adidas Trimm Trabs or Borg Elite's.
