Lacoste Take us Back To The 1970s Running Boom With The Club Low Trainer
Aktie
Giving a nod to the iconic running trainer designs of the early 1970s, the Lacoste Club Low trainer is the ultimate crocodile crep for the coming spring months.
It's probably fair to say that running trainers, specifically those from the early 1970s, had a certain look about them. Thanks to legendary designers like Bill Bowerman who worked with Nike, and Onitsuka Tiger, the designs were all about focusing on cushioning for long-distance runners & midsole shock absorption to cater for the growing jogging boom. It was Bowerman that gave us the Onituska Tiger Corsair and then the Nike Cortez in 1972, two legendary trainers designs that would set the benchmark for running trainers for the entire decade. The distinctive runner design became a key part of the whole "trainers with jeans" style of the 1970s thanks to Farah Fawcett wearing a pair of Nike Cortez in Charlie Angel's in 1976, in an era where product placement was a lot more limited to todays reels & influencer content. Giving a nod to the original running trainer designs of the 1970s it's Lacoste that now offer up a bit of 70s runner nostalgia with the introduction of the Club Low Leather trainer for 2026.

As much as the Casuals loved a bit of the embroidered crocodile on their clobber it was mainly knitwear & polo shirts, footwear for the original dressers was a pair of Trim Trabs or Borg Elites. For the French sportswear brand, Lacoste, footwear didn't come till a bit later in the 90s with the introduction of classic court trainers like the Portofino trainer in 1996. It was the 'all white' trainer trend & designer gear revival of the early noughties courtesy of cult classics like The Football Factory from 2004 that really put Lacoste footwear on the 'Casual' radar. Today the footwear collections from the crocodile brand are just as important as their staple sweats & classic polo shirts.
