Lyle & Scott Harrington Jacket

The Lyle & Scott Harrington Jacket is a Testament to The Harrington's Timeless Appeal

The Golden Eagle adds a "Casual" touch to the timeless silhouette with the introduction of the Lyle & Scott Harrington jacket.

If you know your military parka's from your MA-1 bomber jackets you'll know just how important the humble Harrington jacket is, not only to the world of jackets but also subcultures. It's origins can be traced back to places like Manchester & Burnley in the North West in the 1940s as the cotton industry started to decline after the second World War factory mill owners started to look for other ways of utilising their workforce, machinery & the availability of cotton across the region. As sharp suits, swing jazz & saxophones made way for denim jeans, duck arse haircuts & electric guitars, the Harrington jacket found a new home on the youth culture of the 1950s thanks to the likes of Elvis Presley & James Dean. The British bomber's subculture connection continued into the 1960s courtesy of the original Skinheads, as well as the mod & ska revival of the late 70s & early 80s as famously worn by the Modfather himself, Paul Weller. If you had to explain heritage menswear to a novice, this latest Lyle & Scott Harrington jacket would be something like the dictionary definition, and a testament to the Harrington's timeless appeal.

Lyle & Scott rose to prominence on the working class terraces of the UK throughout the late 1970s & early 1980s. A far cry from the elitist golf clubs, where memberships came with secret handshakes and year long waiting lists. The closest thing the average Casual lad had come to a golf course was probably playing crazy golf on holiday. Golf wasn't exactly a sport you associated with tear-ups on the terraces but neither was tennis. It was all about sportswear, which unlike nowadays, was traditionally sold in sports shops. The old school style sportswear stores with walls of tennis rackets, snooker cues, dartboards and trophies. It was these stores that gave birth to trends like Argyle knitwear, V-necks & fully buttoned polo shirts courtesy of homegrown knitwear brands like Lyle & Scott.
