New Balance 574 Neptune Grey Blue

New Balance Introduce the 574 Trainer in an Updated Neptune Grey & Blue Colourway

The New Balance 574 is a legendary hybrid road/trail running trainer from the 1980s that now returns in an updated Neptune grey & blue colourway.

Every trainer brand has one of them signature models even the not so die hard trainer fans are aware of. Asics have the GEL-LYTE, Nike have the Air Max, adidas have the Samba & Reebok have the Classic. For the Boston born sportswear brand, New Balance, it's got to be the 574. Even if the whole numbers thing might throw you of as there are literally hundreds of NB silhouettes out there, it's the 574 that is arguably the most recognisable of them all. As much as we might shout about Fila & Sergio Tacchini, New Balance has quietly remained a bit of a footwear staple here at 80s Casual Classics over the last 10 years. As new colourways come & go, the 574 continues to be a fan favourite for its all day comfort & classic 80s retro runner style. Born out of a golden era of shorts shorts & sole technology, the New Balance 574 trainer now lands back at its spiritual home in an updated Neptune grey & blue colourway.

It was the 1980s fitness boom that saw a new demand like never before for running trainers with a seismic shift in running shoe technology. It was all about the sole technology with New Balance at the very forefront of the 80s trainer evolution. The decade saw some of the most iconic NB silhouettes of all time. In 1980 NB introduced the 620, closely followed by the 420 in 1982, the 670 in 1984, the 1300 in 1985 and then the New Balance 574 trainer in 1988. American marathon runner and New Balance athlete, Dick Beardsley, famously wore a pair of New Balance running trainers as he crossed the line for the Boston Marathon in 1982. Marketed and designed solely as a 'no fuss' running shoe, the he hybrid road/trail design of the 574 became just as popular for every-day wear. Merging together the best bits from the 575 & the 576, the hybrid design of the 574 also utilised NB's revolutionary ENCAP sole technology which still remains a key feature of New Balance silhouettes today.
