PUMA Give The Sprint Trainer a Premium Espresso Makeover

PUMA put a leisurely spin on the Sprint with a high dose of caffeine for a premium 'Espresso' makeover of the iconic early noughties silhouette.
If you consider yourself a bit of a trainer fanatic you'll know what we're talking about when it comes to the more "leisurely" silhouettes out there. Not all your trainer collection has to be the stereotypical, strictly for a specific sports type. Brands like PUMA were big on the whole leisure thing back in the 1970s with silhouettes like the Weekend trainer and their Bonanza line, which were engineered with more leisure in mind as oppose to doing 4 laps around a 400m track. Just like the adidas Tobacco, a lot of PUMA's more leisure focused silhouettes were usually brown, opting for more earthy hues as oppose to the vibrant track & court colourways. Whilst the PUMA Sprint certainly isn't a silhouette associated with PUMA's legendary leisure line, this latest releases sees the Big Cat brand double up on the caffeine with an Espresso makeover for a premium leisurely spin on the early noughties silhouette.

Taking design inspiration from 1970s cycling trainers such as the Olympia Sprint trainer, the PUMA Sprint is a slim profile 'Big Cat' silhouette that followed in the footsteps of the success of the Speed Cat in the early noughties. The Olympia Sprint was an original all leather 'Made in Yugoslavia' cycling trainer from 1976 that featured a pedal cleat sole and marked a new era for PUMA's dominance in road cycling. First released in 2002, the PUMA Sprint was the pinnacle of trainer culture here in the UK. A hugely popular silhouette of the era, the Sprint trainer took the signature perforated toe box of the Olympia Sprint with an updated slim line running silhouette. Worn by everyone from bassline loving boy racers to beanie wearing indie boys, the PUMA Sprint perfectly captured the trends of the new Millennium.

Now introduced in a leisure line inspired brown colourway as part of the German sportswear brands Archive range, the Sprint now arrives back at its spiritual home following its recent re-release a few months back. Featuring leather uppers alongside the Sprint's signature perforations to the front lateral sides alongside a suede formstrip in dark brown. Other highlights include debossed PUMA branding & a moulded footbed for all day comfort. Finished off with a slimline sole unit for that classic early noughties look, the Sprint Premium is the ultimate 'Big Cat' trainer.
