Sergio Tacchni Cable Knit Cardigan

Sergio Tacchini Does Cable Knits The Casual Way

The Sergio Tacchini Cable Knit cardigan is the "king of cool" and now arrives at its spiritual home in a seasonal green & gardenia colourway.

Whether you're into collecting classic trainers or technical outerwear, you can't deny that cable knits are pretty cool. Originally worn by fisherman for extra warmth it was the birth of pop culture in the 1950s that saw the maritime knitwear gain a cult status thanks to the likes of Elvis Presley in the video for 'Jailhouse Rock' in 1957. Getting repped by the King of Cool himself, Steve McQueen, in 'The Thomas Crown Affair' in 1968 added to the cable knits coolness even more, cementing the classic fisherman silhouette as a timeless style icon. Moving into the 1970s the cable knit style became a key look, especially in polo shirt form, with the soul boys and the dressers with its influences from Jamaican rude boys. The classic cable knit now arrives at 80s Casual Classics courtesy of our friends at Sergio Tacchini in true casual style.

Originally founded in 1966 by the Italian tennis champion of the same name, Sergio Tacchini rose to fame at the pinnacle of casual sportswear in the late 1970s & early 1980s. Worn by a new generation or rock 'n' roll tennis stars like John McEnroe, with centre court meltdowns & non 'white' tennis-wear, Tacchini's vision of style driven sportswear took the elite tennis world by storm. One of the most sought after sportswear brands of the original Casuals, it was the various track tops from the iconic Italian sportswear brand that really put the ST logo on the map. Moving into the late 1980s & early 90s Tacchini's designs really captured the colourful sportswear trends sponsoring American tennis legends like Pete Sampras as he rose through the elite ranks.
