Sergio Tacchini Re-invent The Masters in Classic Knitwear Form
The Sergio Tacchini Masters Crew Knit puts a modern casual spin on the original tennis track top as famously worn by John McEnroe back in the 1980s.
As much as we love, and will continue to love, the nostalgia of the original Casual era and all the classic centre court get up from brands like Sergio Tacchini, we've also built up a bit of a fan base around brand progression. Working with the likes of Sergio Tacchini to re-invent "modern classics" for todays wearer. Admittedly there's a still a bit of the good old "back in my day" inspiration thrown in, but progression is a good thing and we're really pleased with some of the new styles we've recently put out from the Italian sportswear brand. From terrace inspired outerwear to track top designs integrated into knitwear, we've continued to work with Sergio Tacchini to combine 2025 trends with 80s Casual nostalgia. This latest Masters crew knit is a great example of what we're all about at 80s Casual Classics and was recently worn by Neil Primett at the premiere of 'Synthesized' which features This is England star, Thomas Turgoose. Taking its original name from the Masters Grand Prix tennis tournament which John McEnroe won numerous singles titles in London, Stockholm, Tokyo, Philadelphia and Forest Hills between 1978 and 1985. The Masters style was also seen on McEnroe in polo shirt form as part of the Young Line series with its signature twin stripes running across the chest. The original track top version also saw various releases such as the Capomasters which featured a contrasting funnel neck. Not to be confused with the Sergio Tacchini Damarindo track top which features a Masters inspired design and a tipped collar, the Masters is simply one of the very best when its comes to the original 80s sportswear.
